My title:

Last Christmas I received “Life’s Little Instruction Calendar”, one of those desktop calendars with 365 “instructions”, one for each day of the year. Some of them were trivial or not applicable to my life but I came across one instruction that gave me the title for this blog. The saying wasn’t really an instruction at all but more of a statement to keep in mind. It read, “Optimists have twice as many good days as pessimists; so be an optimist.” Upon first reading the page I was reminded of the glass half full (or half empty) concept, which shows that you can look at one idea from at least two different perspectives; from a more negative point of view, pessimists have twice as many bad days. In the midst of midterms, essays and piles of homework it is easy to drown in stress, but having a reminder for the benefits of optimism at the top of my blog may make some of the stress vanish.

When I was asked to come up with a title for my blog I remembered my initial thought about the quote and realized that it applied to literature. Everything we read will have at least one specific interpretation or meaning to each individual in our class. In order to really think about all the works we will read this quarter it will be important to consider this not only in class but when I am writing my own analysis.
